This is the before of a Living Room that I was enlisted to design a bit ago. From the start, I needed to make the fireplace the focal point of this long room, and draw attention to the windows with their great symmetry.
The layout had two love seats focused on the fireplace and a sofa on a lone, long wall. Although the seating area at the fireplace felt cozy when sitting there, it was cut off from the rest of the room. It also felt out of balance.
Above, the after shot shows how rearranging the existing love seats opened up the area and allowed the fireplace to be the star of the space. I warmed up the wall color, keeping the trim a crisp white to draw attention to it. A textured rug grounds and defines this seating area in a larger room with two furniture groupings. Window treatments soften the room, add a touch of privacy and draw the eye up.
In the after shot above, you can see that I rounded out the space with art, accessories, pillows, symmetrical end tables and lighting. A patterned rug and larger scale coffee table create a much more welcoming spot to lounge.
