My room for The One Room Challenge was all about layers of textures, and light, bright, cozy
Transforming my daughter, Tessa’s, room into a hygge hideaway was so rewarding, and working with incredible vendors was the most important part.
Fabricut was key to this room transformation – their products gave the room that light, bright, airy vibe that we were going for. So cozy, so hygge…
Here’s how to get the look.
Layer in Textures
Anyone who knows me knows that I love layers upon layers in my design projects. Everything from layers of lighting to layers of textures and fabrics. Layers give a space depth, soul, and grit. So essential to a well-rounded room. Tessa’s room features Fabricut’s Marstrand wallpaper in Frost and layers of beautiful pillows in a multitude of textures.
My longtime upholsterer, Franco Saldano of First Option Upholstery, made the gorgeous Fabricut pillows. The pillows feature gorgeous textural details: embroidery, applique, and fringe, all of which bring in lots of texture for visual interest and depth. The key to creating high-quality pillows that will last and last is to source high-quality fabrics and work with a talented upholster to showcase those fabrics.
Stick to the Same Color Family
No true hygge hideaway would be complete without a group of beautiful pillows. To keep the space feeling extra light and bright, I chose crisp and clean creams, off-whites, and linen tones: with touches of Tessa’s favorite blues and greens. The pillows all complement one another, building off each other in a harmonious way. Whether she’s reclining on her bed, chair, or new window seat cushion, Tessa has plenty of spots for cozy-ing up and diving into her latest read.
Her pillows include a bolster in Zinc Textile from Romo’s Arrowhead fabric in linen with Fabricut’s Dowlas fringe in platinum, and the pillow in Fabricut’s Treble Lash fabric in white, pillows in Fabricut’s Chalceony fabric in off white, and a window-seat cushion in Fabricut’s Fomo Velvet fabric in carbon and pillows in Fabricut’s Lunar fabric in bleach.
Play with Scale
The eyelash fabric is a small-scale repeating pattern. Paired with the larger scale embroidered fabric, the look is much more multi-layered and visually interesting. Always consider scale when determining your pillow sizes and choosing patterns (you want to see that beautiful repeat!). When in doubt, ask your upholsterer and your vendor for their expert opinions.
Fabricut fabrics are the creme de la creme.
They are high quality and beautiful. They help tell the story of a room and make spaces come to life. I can’t wait to feature more of their line in upcoming projects.
